Innovations for Sustainable Living and Working Environments: insights from the Vitality project

ABSTRACT
This special session serves as a platform to spotlight technological innovations addressing themes explored within the Vitality project “Ecosistema di innovazione, digitalizzazione e sostenibilità per l’economia diffusa nel Centro Italia”, notably centered on Spoke 5, entitled “Environmental, economic, and social sustainability of living and working environments”.
TOPICS
Living and working environments are considered integral parts of the built environment, which includes in a transversal manner four distinct domains that should be tackled and work in synergies:
- People-centric sustainable buildings;
- Active & Assisted Living;
- Sustainability of products for living environments;
- Sustainable manufacturing for the living environment.
Therefore, participants should provide research initiatives that align with one or more of these specified domains, aiming to contribute to the advancement and improvement of the living and working landscapes. The presented research may tackle new technologies and services, using innovative sensor networks, measurement methods, based on the IoT sensor network, BIM and digital twin, signal processing, data analytics and artificial intelligence. These dynamic spaces should be purposefully designed to optimize comfort, functionality, and sustainability. This special session serves as a platform for fostering an inclusive overview in the field of the innovative technology for the working and living environment. Its primary focus lies in showcasing transformative technologies and methodologies that not only drive sustainability but also enhance the occupants’ experience in these environments. The development of these spaces significantly influences well-being and overall quality of life.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS
Gian Marco Revel, is Full Professor in Mechanical and Thermal Measurement at Università Politecnica delle Marche, where he is Rector Delegate for European Research. He received the Ph.D. degree in mechanical measurements from Università degli Studi di Padova in 1998. His research focuses on sensors and measurement technologies for buildings, health and industrial applications, with a particular focus on comfort and human behaviour and diagnostics.
Nicole Morresi, PhD in Mechanical and Thermal Measurements from Università Politecnica delle Marche, is Research Fellow at Università Politecnica delle Marche. Her research focuses on the development of sensor networks and measurement techniques for supporting people in the built environment (e.g. IEQ, comfort and wellbeing), data analysis of heterogeneous datasets using AI-based techniques, and sensors for buildings and infrastructures, health and industrial application.
